Smiley Face Sandwich

Main Ingredients
blueberries white bread chocolate syrup honey strawberry whipped cream

I told my two older sons about this junior chopped battle, and they were both really excited.  They’re 6 (and 11/12ths!) year old twins, so I had to help with things like mixing and cutting and reasonable ingredient quantities.  But they were all about the ideas!

Little N-Man made his smiley face sandwich creation last night for us for dessert.  My husband and I were pretty impressed with it.  It was aggressively sweet, but surprisingly good.  I thought the honey-soaked bread would be soggy and gross, but it ended up being pretty good!  My two older sons thought this dessert was okay, but not their favorite.  But it sure was fun to make!

Smiley Face Sandwich

  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon mint extract
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 slices white bread
  • Lots of honey
  • 3 strawberries
  •  6 blueberries
  • Chocolate syrup

Put whipping cream, vanilla and mint extracts, and sugar in a large bowl.  Whip until it turns into whipped cream.

Put 2 slices of white bread on a plate.  Squeeze honey all over both slices.  Let sit for at least 10 minutes so that the honey soaks into the bread.

Spread whipped cream on one slice of bread, then place the other slice of bread, honey side in, on top to make a sandwich.

Make a face on top of the sandwich with strawberries for eyes and a nose and blueberries for a mouth.  You can use extra whipped cream as "glue" to stick the fruit on.

Drizzle chocolate syrup over the strawberries.
