Several of our kitchen warriors live in the northeast and have been affected by Hurricane Sandy’s rage. Each of us takes so many little things for granted, and we miss them when they are gone. Loss of power, lights, heat, water, refrigeration. Trees down and Halloween postponed. Flooding and gas shortages. When you put things in perspective, though, these things seem so much smaller and you appreciate what you do have. We are all thankful to be healthy and safe, and have no major damage. Our hearts go out to those who lost so much in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. We are completely awed by all of the support and volunteerism that friends, neighbors, strangers and the entire world have shown this region.
Election Day in the U.S. has come and gone, our President will serve four more years, and a new nor’easter is approaching. Political views aside, we all could use a little homey comfort food right now. We propose this new battle which includes some ingredients for November and Thanksgiving, and we may see some recipes perfect for cold days and nights.
- corn muffins
- peppadews (or sweet cherry peppers)
- ricotta cheese
One of our kitchen warriors is on her tenth day with no power or heat, and we send our love and support as she makes sure to keep her family warm. This battle runs through November 30, in the hopes that everyone can get some of their normal back, and get back to cooking.
Happy Thanksgiving. We have a lot to be thankful for.
